One of my off and on hobbies (mostly off lately) is painting. I always had a love for watercolors. I remember watching groups of painters in class on mornings during my childhood summers vacationing in upstate New York. In my college years I dabbled with watercolors myself, copying pieces I saw in Chinese instructional books.
Post college, I dabbled again, this time copying Winslow Homer watercolors, who had a wonderful style and simple techniques to achieve vivid imagery. My all time favorite watercolor artist is David Levine. His series of pieces on beaches, boardwalks, and amusement parks in Brooklyn feature ‘real’ people in familiar environments, and his almost abstract style delivers a realistic feel. He is also very famous for his series of caricatures, which I think are amongst the best done by anyone.
I also collect (inexpensive) pieces of glass art… they make great decorator pieces.
My few works

This piece was challenging and fun, and my most rewarding recent piece. It was designed to fill a large living room wall, and was larger than any standard canvas, so I built a custom 'canvas' of wood framing and masonite. The piece is about 5X8 feet. It is actually a copy of a norwegian artist I discovered in a magazine. The composition is acrylic and oil pastel on board. Painted in 2005.

'Abstract' Character. Also found the inspiration in a magazine. This is a composition of charcoal and oil pastel on canvas. Created 2008.

Oil pastel on canvas. It didn't come out at all like I wanted, and I'm not thrilled with it, but its art! Created 2008.
